Participants will explore how digital environments and tools represent an opportunity to innovate their teaching but they are also means that amplify gender stereotypes, discriminatory narratives and hate speech phenomena I partecipanti esploreranno come gli ambienti e gli strumenti digitali rappresentino un’opportunità per innovare il loro insegnamento, ma siano anche mezzi che amplificano gli stereotipi di genere, le narrazioni discriminatorie e i fenomeni di incitamento all’odio.
Inclusiveness is foundation of the education sector, which translates in providing equal opportunities for all students in terms of knowledge, skills or access to learning environments, be they physical or digital, formal or non-formal. In this view, this course blends two interconnected topics — digitalisation and countering online hate speech on one hand, and gender equality and inclusion on the other. Participants will explore how digital environments and tools represent an opportunity to innovate their teaching but they are also means that amplify gender stereotypes, discriminatory narratives and hate speech phenomena. The main aim of this training programme is to equip school teachers with practical tools, hands-on practices and competences to address these challenges in their classrooms and in school communities.

Digital Inclusion: Gender Equality, Diversity & No Hate Online is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to navigate the digital landscape in an inclusive and rights-based way. Building on the DigCompEdu framework, the SELFIE self-assessment tool, and key gender equality competence frameworks, the course offers a comprehensive journey from self-reflection to collaborative action.

Through a learner-led, hands-on methodology, participants will examine how unconscious biases and gender stereotypes operate in digital environments — from social media algorithms to classroom tools — and how hate speech online disproportionately affects women, girls and marginalised groups. They will leave equipped to design inclusive, gender-sensitive and digitally literate learning experiences for their students.

Main features:
Media and Information Literacy (MIL) through a gender lens: critically evaluating digital information, identifying gendered disinformation and misinformation, and promoting media literacy among students;

Gender equality and diversity: exploring DEI principles, intersectionality, unconscious bias, inclusive language and gender-sensitive teaching practices;
Online Hate Speech — prevention and response: understanding hate speech phenomena, with a focus on gender-based online violence, cyberbullying and how to address these in educational settings;
Digital tools and platforms for teachers: hands-on exploration of tools (Canva, Mentimeter, LearningApps, etc.) to design engaging, inclusive and participatory lessons;
Gendered disinformation and AI: examining the intersection of gender stereotypes, AI-generated content and the spread of harmful narratives in digital environments;
Practical group sessions: collaborative design of inclusive, gender-equal and MIL-integrated curricula and media products for schools.
School visits: connection with local schools and organisations practising gender equality and digital literacy, enabling exchange of good practices;
Perugia and its local context: cultural and institutional exploration of digital and gender equality initiatives in the region.
